Oklahoma Rivers & Outfitters List
We try out as many of these outfitters as possible to make sure they
are still in business and still 'takin' care of business'.
It's a wet job, but we don't mind. We use this float trip
locations list to help
plan canoe & kayak float trips in Oklahoma and other road trips in the Oklahoma
area. If you are an Oklahoma area canoe livery operator feel free to
email us your contact info or
leave a comment on our blog, if we don't already have you listed on
this site. We don't charge paddling outfitters for listing their
information.
Scroll down to the bottom of this page for some new information on
Texas paddling as well.
Rivers have what man most
respects and longs for in his own life and thought--a capacity for
renewal and replenishment, continual energy, creativity, cleansing.
-- John M. Kauffmann
New canoe and kayak outfitters in the Oklahoma area, leave us
your info in a comment on our blog to get added to our listings.

Because I love the Bald Cypress trees that line the
sides of the Lower Mt. Fork River,
I looked around for a spot with even more impressive Cypress trees.
I found Caddo Lake in NE Texas. We recently made a trip to
Caddo Lake in Texas. Kayaking on Caddo Lake is like paddling
through an alien world. For planning
your own trip to Caddo Lake, visit our Kayak Texas page or check
out our Caddo Lake Trip report on our
Kayak Oklahoma blog.
Pictures from our trip can be found on both of those pages, plus on

In the Summer of 2009, Dianne and I spent a wonderfully relaxing
weekend getaway at
River Ranch Cabin in Smithville, Oklahoma. Dianne and I enjoyed
luxury accommodations and a secluded bit of the Upper Mountain Fork
River.
Read about our Upper Mt. Fork River trip on our paddling blog.
This was , by far, the best cabin experience Dianne and I have ever
purchased. Visit and see what insanely great service feels like.
There are many great float trips a short drive away from Oklahoma in
the Arkansas Ozarks.

Oklahoma Float Trip Tip:
Remember to call ahead and reserve your canoes and kayaks at least
one day in advance. Summer afternoon float trips on the Mt. Fork,
for example, often book up.

Charlie Umstead 405-244-3284
Location: US 259 on the east, SH 3 on the south, SH 144
on the north
The
Glover River is Oklahoma's only untamed waterway (meaning no
dams block its course).
Secluded
and un-commercialized, the Glover River is ideal for
veteran floaters with a detailed knowledge of the local topography
and experience with unpredictable waters.
When
the river is low, rocks, logs, and low falls make for a
difficult float or canoe trip. When the river is up, the journey is
definitely not for first-timers.

Mountain
Fork River Float Trips.
The water quality is the clean and
clear with a difficulty rating of Class II (acceptable even
for a novice) on the Lower Mountain Fork River. Most folks opt for the 3.5 miles of fun
rapids, but longer trips and easier trips are available,
just ask your outfitter. Rental canoes and shuttle
services are available in the park (Beavers Bend) and near
the traditional take-out at the Highway 70 bridge.
The Lower Mountain Fork River in
Southeastern, Oklahoma near Broken Bow is also a common spot
to see folks fly fishing. For detailed maps and directions
to Oklahoma's trout fishing resources, you can't beat the
Oklahoma Dept. of Wildlife's Trout Fishing page.
The Upper Mountain Fork River offers rainfall dependant
kayaking for more experienced paddlers looking to go over a
six foot waterfall and other more complex rapids.

Row, Kayak or Dragon Boat on the Oklahoma
River in OKC
The City of OKC recently renamed part of
the
North Canadian River as "The Oklahoma River". This
short section of river is the new hot spot for Olympic
Flatwater Paddling trials and several major wakeboarding
tournaments.
The crown jewel of the new Oklahoma River
is the breathtakingly lovely Chesapeake Boathouse. The
design of the Chesapeake Boathouse represents a sleek rowing
shell with translucent polycarbonate walls providing a
dramatic nighttime image of the building “floating” above
the river.
Chesapeake Boathouse members have access to their fleet of kayaks during open rowing times, and even if you're not a member, you can rent a kayak through a program sponsored by Oklahoma City University.
Kayak Rentals at the Chesapeake Boathouse
in Oklahoma City
Kayak Rentals are open to everyone ages 8
and up and available March through October during boathouse
hours: Mon - Fri, 7am-8pm; Sat, 7am-5pm and Sunday, 1pm-5pm.
The last rental of the day is one hour before boathouse
closing.
Cost is $10 per hour for a singe, $15 for a
double. Reservations are not required, but you may make a
reservation by calling 405-552-4040.
